Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease (also known as gum disease) is the primary cause of tooth loss for American adults. Periodontal disease often begins with mild symptoms, such as redness, light swelling, tenderness or bleeding of the gums. The early stage of periodontal disease is known as gingivitis, while advanced periodontal disease is known as periodontitis. Periodontal disease has been linked to increased risk for heart attacks, strokes, pre-term and low-weight births and diabetes complications. Periodontal disease can cause jawbone and gum deterioration and tooth loss.
Dr. Weinfield and her team of talented hygienists offer several forms of periodontal treatment to stop the spread of periodontal disease, elminiate it and reverse its ill effects. If Dr. Weinfield finds that you have periodontal disease or are prone to contracting periodontal disease, she will suggest one or more of the following periodontal treatment techniques:

- Root Planing - Smooth the root surfaces to reduce proclivity for plaque buildup
- Antibiotic Treatment - Kill bacteria in gum pockets
- Surgery - Remove diseased and damaged tissue, promote the growth of new tissue
- Soft Tissue Grafts - Replace lost tissue and stimulate new tissue growth
